A local guide to Farnham Common

On the borders of Burnham Beeches and Slough is the village of Farnham Common.

The village may not have its own train station, but residents still find it easy to get about thanks to the area’s comprehensive bus network, connecting it to the nearby towns of Slough, Beaconsfield and Chalfont St Giles.

In terms of services and facilities, Farnham Common has all the trappings one would expect of a small village, boasting a bustling shopping centre, a handful of good schools and at least four pubs.

Over the years, Farnham Common has been the home of a number of famous faces including, TV star Dennis Waterman and football manager Martin O’Neill.

It’s also famous for being home to Lois Allen, the inventor of the classic children’s toy Fuzzy Felt.

During the Second World War, Lois set up a small factory in the outbuildings surrounding her cottage in Farnham Common to produce the product.

Some years later, as demand increased, the production line then shifted to High Wycombe before being outsourced overseas during the 1990s.

Housing in the area is generally more expensive than the national average, with a typical two-bedroom property setting buyers back by approximately £312, 253. A figure that is £124,359 above the national average.
