A local guide to Stoke Poges

The village of Stoke Poges in South Buckinghamshire would make an ideal location for anyone looking to work in nearby Slough and Windsor, as well as further a field in either Reading or London.

The area is well served by transport links, with the M4 nearby and the services of Slough Railway Station a mere three miles away.

In addition, the area also benefits from regular bus services to Gerrard’s Cross, Chalfont, Amersham, Chesham and Slough Train Station, too.

The area is the home of Stoke Poges Golf Club, which not only provides visitors to the area with somewhere attractive to tee off, but also features in at least several British films. These include, Layer Cake, Goldfinger and Wimbledon.

However, this isn’t the only local landmark worthy of note as Stoke Poges is also where a number of houses of historical interest can be found, including Stoke Park, Sefton Park and Stoke Place.

The area is also famed for its association with the poet Thomas Grey who is buried in the churchyard of St. Giles’ Church in Stoke Poges.

Like most villages in the area, Stoke Poges has a good selection of pubs, many of which have been serving customers for centuries.

For instance, The Red Lion at Stoke Green is reputed to have been a public drinking house for over 400 years and The Dog and Pot has been serving regulars their pints since at least 1758.
